The Dark Side of Hong Kong
Hong Kong is usually considered as one of the most richest cities in the world. It has been the financial center of Asia for years, with many gorgeous roads, luxury buildings, expensive cars … However, not many people can see the dark sides of Hong Kong, where there are many “cage-houses”, dirty streets, criminal, sorrow and miserable souls. Jonathan Van Smith, a New Zealand consultant, has stayed in Hong Kong for a while, spent a lot of his time to visit those areas, and recognized the ugly truth through his black and white collections. I was really impressed when opened these images first time, especially when I was thinking about the Hong Kong as almost of us known. He helped people can see the another side of a wonderful land, it is not always perfect as they can imagine.
According to Smith, foreign investors and business men, who bring the richness for Hong Kong, just stick together. They don’t hang-out, do business or invest with the others in different group. They live in the world, which many people really wish for. Their children go to the international school, grow up together and start the new cycle. Meanwhile, the poor people, almost the local citizens, stayed away, and spend a lot of time to just fulfill their stomach and find a place to sleep.
